as a symptom.

Kink-aware therapy on the Gold Coast for people in BDSM, D/s, and other consensual erotic practices. A practice where nothing about your erotic life requires justification before the work begins. In-person in Miami. Telehealth Australia-wide.

Quick answer

Kink-aware therapy on the Gold Coast at Jackson Hill Psychology. A practice where consensual kink is held without pathology, alarm, or redirection. Sessions are $234, or $85 out of pocket with a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP.

What brings people here

Many people who seek a kink-aware therapist have already had at least one experience of a clinical space that could not hold their erotic life without changing. Not usually hostility. Something quieter: a slight shift in the room when the material came up, a reorientation of the questions that followed, a gradual sense that what could be brought in had been renegotiated without anything being said. The therapy continued, but it had learned its own limits.

The specific concern is not always judgment. It is a more practical question about range: whether the therapist can hold this material without it becoming the frame through which everything else is interpreted. Whether the erotic life can be present in the room as context rather than as a presenting problem. Whether something the person did not come here to process will quietly become the subject.

This practice is built to answer that question clearly, before you have to say anything. The erotic life is not the presenting problem unless you say it is. It is simply part of the landscape of your life, held accordingly.

What kink-aware means

Kink-aware is a clinical descriptor. It means the therapist understands that BDSM, D/s dynamics, and other consensual erotic practices are not inherently pathological, and will not treat them as such. The erotic interest is context. It is not a symptom to be traced back to something, a coping mechanism to be processed away, or evidence of something that needs to resolve before the actual work can begin.

What this practice will not do: make the kink the target of the therapy. Frame your erotic life as the reason other things are difficult. Redirect the work toward helping you reconsider or exit the practice. Treat consent and power as material that needs explaining before it can be held. Read BDSM as a trauma reenactment unless there is specific clinical reason to, and you bring that question yourself.

What kink-aware does not mean: this is not a specialty in sexuality, sex therapy, or sexual dysfunction. It is not a BDSM educator or a relationship structure facilitator. It is clinical psychology, conducted by an AHPRA-registered psychologist, where your consensual erotic life is held without alarm and does not become the organising principle of the work unless you make it one.

The approach to this work

The orientation here is relational and psychodynamic. It is interested in the self: how it formed, how it presents to the world, what it holds privately, and what the gap between those two things costs. For many people in kink, that gap is significant and has its own texture. The public self and the erotic self are kept carefully separate, not out of shame necessarily, but because the cost of misjudging a room has been established. The relational frame is interested in that texture, without making it a problem to be resolved.

This practice is kink-aware, LGBTQ+ affirming, and non-moralising about the full range of human sexuality, including people in sex work and the adult industry. These are not three separate positions that happen to coexist. They share an underlying orientation: the erotic life of the person is held without a background project of normalising it, redirecting it, or making it mean something it doesn’t. The work begins from where you actually are.

What brings people here is almost never the kink itself. It is the same territory that brings anyone to therapy: something in how they exist in the world, in their relationships, in the gap between what they feel and what they are able to hold. The work is about that. Your erotic life is welcome in the room. It is not the reason you are there.
