What is a Mental Health Care Plan?
A Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP), also called a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP), is a document your GP prepares that refers you to psychological services under Medicare. Once it is in place, Medicare rebates a portion of your session fee for up to 10 sessions per calendar year.
Getting one does not mean you have a diagnosed condition. It is a practical step that makes psychological support more affordable. Sessions reset each year on 1 January. After 6 sessions, your GP reviews the plan before approving the remaining 4.
