Quick answer

Jackson Hill is a Clinical Psychologist (AHPRA registered, MPsych Clinical) based in Miami on the Gold Coast. He sees adults individually, in person and via telehealth. His work is depth-focused: relational psychodynamic therapy and ISTDP for people whose difficulty lives in how they exist, not just in what they do. Sessions are available short, medium, and long-term. No referral required to book. Sessions are $234, or $85 out of pocket with a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP.

What we work with

The difficulty lives in who you are,
not just what you do.

This practice works with adults navigating the kinds of difficulties that are rooted in relationship: in character, in patterns, in how a person relates to themselves and others. If you have had therapy before and something has not been reached, this is often the territory that was missed.

I am a Clinical Psychologist based in Miami, Gold Coast. My work is relational and psychodynamic. I work with what happens between people, and with what happens inside a person in relationship. I trained at Griffith University and have worked across an unusually broad range of clinical contexts, from Veterans' Affairs and the Gold Coast Academy of Sport to acute inpatient settings and private practice.

I keep a small caseload and work under ongoing supervision, not because it is required, but because this level of work demands it.

The work is relational, which means I bring myself into it. Sessions are not structured around a checklist or a predetermined framework. What happens between us is taken seriously: the emotional texture of interactions, the things that surface beneath the words, what shifts when something is named. That is not incidental to the process. It is the process.

How this practice works

Three things happen in good therapy,
in roughly this order.

Recognition

Do I recognise myself here?

Most people arrive here already carrying something they have struggled to fully name. Not a diagnosis, exactly. More a way of being with themselves, with other people, or with life that has started to feel painfully familiar. The same emotional pattern returning in different forms. A sense that something is off, even when things appear functional from the outside.

Good therapy often begins there: in the moment something feels recognised before it is fully understood.

What people bring →
Presence

Can this person stay with me in this?

Therapy works through relationship. Not simply as support around a technique, but through the experience of being met differently than you may have been elsewhere. Sometimes for the first time.

The question is not only whether the approach makes sense intellectually, but whether the person sitting with you can remain present with confusion, conflict, shame, anger, uncertainty: without needing you to become easier, clearer, or more composed than you are.

Process

What actually happens if I start?

This is not a structured program or a performance of self-improvement. Sessions tend to follow what is actually present rather than what sounds most organised. Over time, patterns that once felt automatic begin to become more visible: especially in relationships, emotional reactions, and the ways you have learned to protect yourself.

What changes first is often not the symptom itself, but your relationship to what sits underneath it.

This practice

One clinician. No associates.
Small caseload.

The Gold Coast has a significant number of psychology services. Most operate at volume: high client throughput, multiple clinicians, structured short-term treatment. Jackson Hill Psychology is a different kind of practice.

This is a private, boutique practice built around long-term relational work with a small number of clients. When you book an initial session, you work with Jackson Hill directly, from the first conversation, for the duration of the work. There are no intake coordinators, no associates, no handovers between clinicians. The therapeutic relationship requires continuity, and this practice is structured around that requirement.

Session availability is limited. Early morning appointments from 7am, after-hours, and Saturday sessions are available to accommodate working schedules. Medicare rebates apply regardless of the time of session.

01

Make contact

You can book directly through the online booking system, or send a message if you would prefer to make contact first. No referral required. Jackson responds to every enquiry personally.

02

First session

Not an intake. We go straight into the present: what is happening for you right now, what you are hoping for, and what it would mean for things to be different. By the end, we will both have a clearer sense of whether this work is the right fit.

03

The work

Sessions are 50 minutes, weekly to begin with. The pace is yours. Some people work here for months, others considerably longer. Nothing is determined before we have spoken.

Yes. Telehealth sessions are available via video call, phone, or walk-and-talk for clients anywhere in Australia. The therapeutic relationship develops fully in the online context.

CBT works with thoughts and behaviours: identifying patterns, challenging distortions, building skills. Relational psychodynamic therapy works with the deeper emotional and relational architecture that generates those patterns. The focus is on character, self-experience, and what happens between therapist and client in real time. Many people who have found CBT genuinely helpful find that relational work reaches something CBT was not designed to address.

Jackson works across short, medium, and long-term frames. The duration depends on what you are bringing and what you are hoping for. A focused piece of work on a specific presentation can produce meaningful change in months. Understanding and shifting character-level patterns that shape how someone moves through all their relationships is longer work. That conversation happens in the first session.

Psychiatrists are medical doctors who can prescribe medication and typically focus on diagnosis and pharmacological management. Clinical psychologists are university-trained in psychology and deliver psychotherapy. Jackson Hill is a Clinical Psychologist: his work is entirely talk-based, focused on understanding and shifting the patterns that generate distress, rather than on medication management. Both can be valuable depending on what you are dealing with.

CBT works with thoughts and behaviours. Relational psychodynamic therapy works with the emotional and relational architecture underneath, including what you cannot yet put into words. The relationship between therapist and client is itself the vehicle for change. Many people who come here have found CBT helpful for managing symptoms but find that something deeper needed to be reached.
